Welfare Committee
Edo Union Leeds Welfare & Services
From bereavement support to hospital visits, our welfare fund is a cornerstone of the Edo Union Leeds community. In 2024 alone, we disbursed over £3,000 to members in times of need.
One of the founding principles of Edo Union Leeds is that no member should face hardship alone. This is embodied in our Community Welfare Fund — a dedicated pool of resources that supports members during their most difficult moments.
What the Welfare Fund Covers
- Bereavement support — financial assistance for loss of a member or immediate family
- Hospital visit coordination — committee members visiting sick members
- Emergency financial aid — for members facing unexpected financial hardship
- Repatriation support — assistance with body repatriation to Nigeria
- New baby gifts — celebrating new additions to our community family
2024 Welfare Fund Report
In the 2024 financial year, the Welfare Committee disbursed a total of £3,240 across 9 welfare cases. This included two bereavement support cases, three emergency hardship grants, three hospital visit coordination packages, and one repatriation support case. Every penny came from member contributions and the generosity of our community.
"When I lost my mother, the community was there for me immediately — financially and emotionally. I didn't feel alone for a single moment." — EUL Member
