This year's landmark annual gala brought together members from across West Yorkshire in a spectacular evening of traditional Edo music, royal attire, high-table dining, and award recognitions for outstanding contributions to the community.

The Edo Union Leeds 2025 Annual End-of-Year Gala was nothing short of magnificent. Held at a prestigious venue in central Leeds, the evening brought together over 150 members, their families, and distinguished guests from across West Yorkshire and beyond.

A Night of Royal Splendour

Members arrived dressed in their finest traditional Edo attire — radiant coral beads, immaculate white agbada, and vibrant aso-oke headgear filled the hall with the colours of the Benin Kingdom. The dress code was a testament to the community's deep pride in its cultural identity.

"Events like this remind us why we built this community. We came here as strangers, but we have built something sacred — a home away from home." — President, Edo Union Leeds

Cultural Performances & Awards

The cultural troupe delivered breathtaking traditional Edo royal dances, with live percussion and Benin ancestral music that had guests on their feet. The evening also featured the annual Community Awards ceremony, recognising members who showed exceptional dedication to community welfare, cultural promotion, and youth mentoring.

  • Community Service Award — Mr. & Mrs. Aigbokhan
  • Cultural Preservation Award — The Edo Cultural Troupe
  • Youth Ambassador Award — Miss Osaze (Age 22)
  • Welfare Champion — Welfare & Charity Committee

A Looking Forward

As the evening concluded with a sumptuous spread of traditional Edo cuisine — banga soup, eba, jollof rice, and pepper soup — members were encouraged to remain active participants in the community's growth. The 2026 event is already being planned, promising an even grander celebration.
